wow thanks for the information, cleared alot up. so basically, the autotronic trigger wheel and stock CAS act as the VR sensor and crank tooth wheel, correct? I can use the ford coilpack and plugs, but not the crank position sensing part, right?

I have heard about the FORD edis but I think i'm confused as to what it is entirely. The whole thing is the ignition(coilpack, wires) AND the position sensing part (crank wheel, sensor) right? But I wouldnt be interested in the position sensing since I could use stock CAS.

Exactly the CAS acts as the crank trigger. The CA CAS disc has like 360 little marks on the edge, and weird cut outs in the disc itself this determines crank position as well which cylinder is firing. You could use the CAS and FORD coilpack no problem, and would only require 1 extra VB921.

EDIS stands for Electronic Distributorless Ignition System. This consists of VR Sensor (Variable Reluctance Sensor) EDIS Module (This is like the brain of the EDIS this receives the signal from the VR sensor and sends it to MS) think of it as a RELIABLE MSD ignition box. Ford Coilpack Tower 2 terminals bound together to make 1.



In the pic you'll see whats called the EEC Module thats the ECU for the car it stands for Electronic Engine Control. That gets replaced with Megasquirt.

do I need the EDIS module if I don't use VR sensor and wheel?

Nope you only use the module if you completly use the whole EDIS-4.

U can still use the VR sensor without the module too.

Anyways yes you dont have to use the sensor and wheel if you use the CAS. You just use the 180* signal from the CAS.

But when the router board comes out you'll use the 90* signal and 180* signal.

I see the unassembled msII on diyautotune for 250, then the assembled is 430. That means its ready to go but the 250 one needs alot of soldering done?

Yup the unassembled is the one where you solder everything together, it takes about 8 hours for beginner and 5 hours for advanced. The assembled is the one I have pictured above the Surface Mounted board. Eventually when I save up enough cash I will switch over to that one.

The only downside is that its not as customizable as the unassembled one. The unassembled is meant for the TRUE DIY enthusiast. The SMD 3.57 is meant to be more User friendly and for one who just want to get up and go.

yea but even for beginner solderer, is it reliable to have someone (myself) who has only soldered wire together (easy to fix if messed up) try and solder multiple components onto small circuit boards?

I never soldered before in my life and the ecu is still running strong in my car. I even have peeps around the country my ecu's. So I would says its doable.

I recommend going to Radioshack pick up a PCB and some components to **** with, also pick up the stimulator and practice on that as well. Its not hard just time consuming.

But for 100% reliability the assembled kit cant be beat. Like I said when I come up with the cash its what I'll be using.
