1996 Nissan Altima 4cyl with 150k total on car and about 20k on quality rebuild. Cleaned injectors, replaced battery, full tank of premium.

Car runs great, sounds great, doesn't overheat, good performance - until about 4 to 5 miles and then it acts like it ran out of gas. After letting it cool down completely (overnight) it starts right back up and drives great for another 4 to 5 miles. Very frustrating! It did have a bad battery that I replaced.

Could it be the coil? What would stop working when the cars warms up? After it stops it acts like it is out of gas and turns over, but no ignition. This has now happened about 6 times - very consistent.

HELP?!?

Thanks!!!

Change your fuel filter. It has a metallic seam on it from the factory and sometimes that seam gets warped due to pressure over time. When it gets hot the metal expands and the seam now has a leak. This leak is just enough to take your fuel pressure below the 34psi required to feed the injectors. Until you replace the fuel filter, take a can of cool water with you and dump some on the seam when it happens. This should buy you another mile or so. Of course, it would be best to get a ride to the auto parts store and buy a new fuel filter.

Thank you for your reply and suggestion. Unfortunately, that was the first thiing I did and forgot to mention it. I replaced the metal fuel filter next to the firewall and it did not make a difference. Unless there is another fuel filter somewhere else . . .

Thanks!! Any other suggestions?

You need to insure that your charging system is indeed working properly--get it tested--make sure your alt. is doing its job--them look into the temp. sensor make sure that the ECU is seeing the correct temp.
