I've owned my 95 s14 for a year now. when I first got her I notice that as I would drive down the road for extended periods of time the temp drops pretty low and will come back to normal op when I stop. well I I just installed a turbo kit and while I was at it figured I'd flush the radiator and install a new t-stat just to be sure. now this is where it gets wierd. I can't get the t-stat to open, I already checked the t-stat in a pot of boiling water and its fine. according to the temp gauge its running at normal operating temp, and I've tried to burp the car like 5 times but the bottom hose is always cold. did I somehow not burp it right. I just filled, closed the bleeder screw, and left the radiator cap open and let it idle for like 15 minutes with an occasional blip of the throttle. and I had coolant starting to overflow the filler neck. I have driven it around and the gauge never climbs...anyone ever heard of a KA doing this?

Check your connections both of your Temperature senders. The two wire one is to the ECU, and the one wire one is to the gauge in your dashboard. I had the same problem where my gauge wouldnt go up at all, and the car would act funny. It ended up my connections were just coroded and dirty from being old. I took some of that electrical wiring cleaner stuff and a nail filer cleaned it up and everything works like a charm.

the bottom hose will not get hot because it is the cold hose, coolant flows from bottom to top so all the hot coolant comes back to the rad from the top hose to get cold then it flows out the bottom hose to cool the engine.

as for the gauge not goin up, do what S13FX said, check the connection to the 2 sensors on the intake manifold by where the top hose connects.

aghh so its a reverse flow....never knew that. I guess I stated it wrong when I say that I've driven the car around without the gauge climbing I mean it doesn't go above normal operating temp...I guess I should be happy it doesn't overheat, but it seems weird that the level has never dropped in the radiator, figured I'd have to add some after burping the system for sure.
