Hey, I've got a 91 KA24E with 125k miles. After I recently changed the oil, the lifters starting ticking. I was thinking that it could be that one of the oil passages got clogged, so I tried re-changing the oil. No change. So I tried adding STP oil treatment to thicken the oil, to maybe quiet it down. (From 10W-30). It helped a little, but not nearly enough. I decided to try Auto-RX. I have been running it for about 20 miles, but also no change.
Can/Should I keep running the truck for the entire 3000 or so miles for the Auto-RX treatment, or will I burn up my valves? The ticking is only at low RPMs. Is there a way to tell if it is a defective lifter, or if it is just a clogged passageway?
Thanks!
