I would like to remove my fan shroud off my KA24DE engine so if i ever need to do any work on the front of the engine it'll save me a lot of time. Anyone have any write up on how to do this? I am scared i might end up running the vacuum lines and wires in the wrong way and dont want the fan to rip anything apart.

Thanks in advance guys

Dont disconnect any of the lines, just push them aside. Your going to have to remove the a/c fan and clutch fan also and then install it again with out the fan shroud on. The fan shroud has 2 parts to it an upper and lower part attached by little plastic connectorsin the middle. Take off the upper part first then the lower part. Get the car up on jack stands it'll make your life easier. By the way, why would you want to take off the fan shroud it plays a nice role in engine cooling. If you must work on the front of your engine just take it off while you are workingon it, its a 10 minutes at most job.

It's a bad idea to remove it. The shroud draws the air through the radiator.

Getting the fan shroud out is a 3 min job. but should only be done in order to install additional cooling to the RAD. On another note if you are doing this to clear up room to work on the engine and you are asking how to remove it, Just a thought keep it on and let a licensed mechanic work on your engine. JMO

also DL the FSM it will help with seeing how all the vacuum lines run and Everythnig!

Yea I have electric fans from a Intrepid on my car (they have their own shroud ). I hate the noisy fan clutch on Nissans.

What kind of aluminum radiator do you have? I have KA+Koyo and shroud fits perfect without cutting or modification. I have both upper and lower portions. It just got pushed to engine side a little bit. I also know someone with SR+Koyo radiator and his shroud fits perfect too. There's like less than an inch clearance between SR and shroud, but I have more space than that.

Trick is... you install the upper portion of shroud on the radiator and lower it from the top after that install the lower portion. Stuff is on the way, so it's kinda hard to install, but definitely you can do it. If you try to install shroud later, fins will get messed up big time. I called Koyo and confirmed about this before I bought the radiator. I wanted to use shroud.

ive got a mishimoto, its pretty thick.

the fan was hitting the shroud, and i wouldnt have had any room to put my hands down there to take off the fan. so i just left it off.

You really should keep the shroud if you are still using the stock clutch fan......

Awesome write-up!!

Seriously though, don't remove the fans shroud. If you're running the stock fan, keep the stock shroud. It's there for a reason, not aesthetics.

This picture is from one of Mishimoto raditor auction ons eBay. It looks like it's 2 1/4 inch thick. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

This is my Koyo radiator. I just took this picture. It's same thickness, 2 1/4 inch. When I replaced it, everything that came out went back in without a problem. I didn't have to ditch anything. I admit space is really tight. There's 1/2 inch space betwee shroud and fan on my car. I think you should try it again.

I have a Koyo radiator and I'm using the fan shroud also.

1. Put in radiator(make sure you unbolt your fan from the fan clutch before you go to step 2)2. Slip in the fan shroud3. Slip in your fan from underneath and bolt it up to your fan clutch.

That's how I did mine. Worked out fine.

To the OP. Do not remove your fan shroud because of clearance issue. You'll run the risk of overheating your car.

I tried these 2 steps and found out I could mess up the fins. So, I attached the shroud to the radiator and slide them from the top. It worked like a charm. Gain from removing clutch fan is not so much. You can also gain from lighted flywheel, pulley or 1 piece aluminum shaft. I think stock clutch fan works just fine.

i too have a mishimoto radiator, when i installed it i removed the clutch fan and drove around for a few months on the stock electric fan without a shroud, other than working the air pockets out after the radiator install, i had no problems with overheating, even when i took it to the track, i have changed the stock electric fan out for dual 12 inch flex-a-lite fans and they keep temps WAY down, but i never had a problem

240's didnt have stock electric fans. there was a pretty small condenser fan for the AC system, but not one meant for the radiator, so you lucked out.

im not trying to fit my bigass hands between the shroud and engine to bolt my fan up. i havent had any problems yet, so its staying like that.

so i guess ill stop posting about the whole situation, mass consensus says "dont take it out because of clearance issues" so im not helping anything by giving my information.

on another note, 94_240, whats that carbon fiber, ehhhh?

I have no shroud. Works fine, even in the 100 degree cali weather with AC on.

YEAH WHAT NOW.

i agree, its recommended to have it. but. in most cases its not a big deal. i cant get my hands between the stuff. ill go measure my radiator tomorrow.

im not even sure if i have a shroud anymore, i mightve thrown it out. or it could be in my garage. not too sure. haha

I didn't have a shroud on my old one. It blew up due to overheating but that was due to a faulty block.

I'm holding out on you. It's Garage Defend GT cooling panel.

I don't know from firsthand experience if 240's will run okay without a fan shroud so I'm not going to recommend that. What I do know is that the fan shroud will help your cooling system to perform at it's peak. The cooling system is also vital to your engine's performance. Nissan didn't put in the fan shroud just to take up room.

How do you secure the shroud bottom in a 1990 240sx? Mine flops around

If you look on the bottom there are two tabs they fit into holes at the bottom right next to the rad. real easy! If you pull it out you will be able to see what I am talking about. GL

don't take off the shroud if you're cooling system is still stock.

the shroud directs the air.. you're hindering the performance of your cooling system so that you can have a few more inches of workspace.

anybody with any training in the automotive field will tell you the same thing.

Could you post a picture of your whole engine bay with that cooling panel? It looks pretty rad!

had a couple questions.

in the pic posts of the Hashimoto and the Koyo radiators, theyre both 2 1/4 in thick leaving 1/2 in of space between radiator and shroud.

So that would mean, if i bought a 3 in. radiator...it wouldnt fit unless i removed the shroud.

Question 1: is there enough room for the radiator to sit with just the clutch fan still on? Or must the fan be removed as well?

Question 2: Would the increased capacity of the radiator make up for the loss of shroud + fan and provide further cooling?

If that was hard to understand...

Which setup provides better cooling efficiency?

Setup A : 3 in. Radiator / No Shroud / No Clutch Fan

Setup B: 2 1/4 in Radiator W/Shroud W/ Clutch Fan

and if anyone has pics of several electric fan setups? i havent really seen much after searching..... thnx

Will two 12" fans completely cover the stock radiator?

Do I need a shroud with dual electrics?

What is the best fan controller?

And do I need to buy the $30.00 70amp relays for each fan?
