Running w/o my EGR VALVE BAD?

I was told that because I am running with out my egr valve that I may be risking pinging at mid throttle. He said I may have to back my timing off to make up for the difference. Can some one help clear this up for me?

who even runs with their EGR? I didn't even think you can run with a EGR on an american 240?

All BS as far as I can tell. Probably about 1% of USDM SR owners run the EGR. Mainly because the pipe that goes to the 02 extension has to be relocated or else it hits the steering column. Dont worry about running with out the EGR, plus there are way less vaccum wires to deal with.
