Running too Rich?

Hey. I think i'm running a little rich. It is backfiring quite a bit when i get on it good and let off the throttle. It isn't very responsive off of idle either. Not until 3500 rpm is it running good. I took out the spark plugs and observed them. They are a little orange or brownish color. That means it is running rich correct? I have the following mod in my sig. Anything i can do to help this? Maybe the plugs are too hot. Should I get different plugs.. ? which ones? Thanks in advance...

You do not sound like your running TOO rich. You have at atmospheric BOV I assume and backfires are normal. I have quiet backfires all the time. How loud are your backfires? A light grumble or sound like M80's going off behind your car?

like m80's.. they just crack. big *** fire balls. I also have quiet ones too all the time.. but when i get on it , that is when i have the shotgun fires

If you didn't do it already? check your hot pipe up and down for any leaks or loose connections (leaks). If you have a boost leak your ecu will be sending the fuel for the air that isn't in the pipe anymore, causing a very rich condition. If it is massive there will be plenty of black smoke. If small your ecu still might be gettin messed up.

Do you have something to compensate for your BOV? If not, you will OBVIOUSLY be running rich between shifts and coming off of boost. Because you are expelling air that would normally be used in combustion; then when the unburned fuel reaches air and is hot enough, it explodes out the back of your exhuast. Do you have a cat? A cat should stop the fire, if your getting fire and your cat is not gutted then you have problems.

No leaks on the hotpipe. I tigged the flange on myself and checked for leaks. There is no leaks what so ever from hotpipe to tb. I run no cat at all. But I do have a cat laying here.. Don't want to put it on though. What is the color of your spark plugs? Mine are still orangish brownish color.

And no.. i don't have anything to compensate for the bov.. it is not recirculating like the stock one. thanks

Then the richness is normal. I get less M80 backfires, but I still get them everytime I go into neutral or between gears. No big deal, my gas mileage only went down 2mpg to 26mpg. Your spark plugs are fine, that color is ok.

Hey.. found out the real problem man.. The back 2 injectors were disconnected or came apart where the wires go into the clips. They have been disconnected or not working 100% since I did all my upgrades. The car hasn't run that well since then. But damn does it go now.........wow...........

No ****. It was running speratically and backfiring like hell. I thought my wastegate was stuck open. This is one bad mother. I've never experienced anything like it.. this is no honda. oh no.. this is no trans am or vette.. this is just nasty.. it is FAST. Runs like a dream now... wohoo.. i think i just want to drive and drive and drive
