Atleast i think it is. Ive had this problem for a while now, it's a bone stock sohc and it seems like its running rich. It goes through gas like no other, the exhaust smells very rich and the muffler itp gets black as soon as i polish it. No it is not burning any oil what soever and it is lackin power so bad. Here is what ive done so far, changed maf, o2, cts, tps, fuel filter and replaced all vacum lines, no leaks anywhere. Does this sound like a problem with the fuel delivery system? i do notice my fuel pump makes some funny noises every now and then and the pump is just a year old. I ordered an aftermarket fpr from ebay and am going to put that in to see if it eliminates anything. What else shold i be checking for? any other ideas would help.

Thanks Eric

check the wire harness for the maf ,most of the time it is wires and a maf gets replaced.check pin fit and voltage drop on ground side.get the problem fixed before installing fpr,so you dont create another problem fixing one.

Check your spark plugs and see if they are dry fouled. Its most likely a wiring issue but I would check the following components and wiring associated withthem:

Ignition Timing, MAF, Coolant Temp Sensor, Coolant Temp Switch, 02 Sensor, MAP (if applicable), Emissions componants and idle air components.

I'm assuming this is for the 89 240SX with KA24E? The coolant temp switch and sensor are right beside each other on the lower manifold. I usually change both together since it aways problem always seems to be the one I dont replace.

You can use the ECU to pull a possible error code. Its is located behind the passenger kick-panel, its a bit tough to pull out but on the side that normally faces to the firewall there are 2 led lights and a little screw beside it. It has a diagnostic mode. Turn the engine on, then Turn the screw all the way clockwise and both will flash in unison so many times with a brief pause. Itll cycle, 1flash, pause, 2flashes pause and so on until 5 flashes then back to one. When it does 3 flashes (mode 3) quickly turn it all the way counterclockwise. Red will blink X amount of times (represents the tens digit) and then green will (represents the ones digit). If you get a 55 all is okay on some of the sensors and what not, its a bit of a guide but its not OBD-II so everything isnt listed,. Also you can go into mode 1 (02 sensor checker). Once the car is up to temp for about 5minutes, check it. If the green light is not blinking there would be a fault in the 02 sensor and if the red light is on there is an ECCS malfunction.

Sorry for length but I hope it helps some. I think Im too thorough of a typer
