Ok, First off its a '93 Hatch with a S13 Blacktop, GT2871R, Greddy FMIC, Blitz BOV to atmosphere, 550cc injectors, Apexi Power FC ECU, 3" exhaust.

Now the car doesnt necessarily get too bad gas mileage according to what I've seen online, getting around 20mpg city, but I KNOW it can do better. I can literally smell the gas fumes from inside the car and on the outside its crazy. I'm wondering if I need to tune the ecu or replace one of the popular O2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, or MAF.

When cold-starting the engine will stay idle at 2000rpm, is this normal?

After it warms up and I've been driving the idle will stay at 1200rpm...and there is a lot of popping comming from the exhaust while sitting. The car doesn't smoke at all while driving or sitting, but I noticed if I let it sit and I rev it up and let go of the accelerator a small cloud of black smoke will come out, which would mean rich, right?

I've dropped all the rpm settings on the FC Commander and nothing changes. I know the IACV is good because I removed it and tested it. And since its a Power FC ECU doesn't it control the throttle position and bypass the TPS, I tried changing that and none of the tps specs changed while testing the wires.

I'm sooooo lost and all I want is to stop running rich and choking on the fumes...Someone save me please!!!!

who tuned the power fc? if you go to rs-enthalpy.com they have a section on pwer fc tunes. i had them tune my ecu to a similar setup as yours and they said 300whp and 30.5mpg so shoot them an email and they should be able to help. but i might cost you.

since ur not idling at 800-900, do timing again, follow fsm then if that doesnt help u can lean out the injectors with ur commander

Bought the car how it is, been working out all the bugs and tuning is all it needs now. Supposedly the previous owner said he had it tuned not too long ago.

Ok, I was looking at the FC commander just now and it seems like my timing may be off....A LOT! If the FC is reading it right then my ignition timing is at 39-40 degrees at 1200-1300rpm idle. When I rev it and hold it at any rpm it will stay around 43 degrees. What should the ignition timing be at?

But why would the car run fine except for the rough idle, running rich and sputtering if the timing is off soo much?

i suggest getting it retuned or checked out, it suppose to be 850 at 15 degrees, follow fsm for timing

yea...I was just adjusting the cam sensor and my idle went down to 950 which is where I had set it on the Power FC, but the timing is now at 30 degrees at 950 and goes up to 40 degrees when revving. I guess its an improvement from what it was but still way out of spec.

And on a side note...If I rev it up and let go it will fall and catch itself at 400rpm and bounce back and forth between 500-1200 untill finally settling at 950...When I let go I can catch it by feathering the accelerator around 1000 and it will stay without bouncing. I removed my IACV a month ago and checked it, I tested it to a battery and it was working just fine, was a little gunky but I cleaned it. Any thoughts on this as well?
