hey guys! i just bought my first 240 about 4 months ago and the kid who sold it to me advanced the timing. when he said this i thought that he just meant through the distributer but upon further investigation, i realized that the chain is actually advanced a tooth. now i dont really have the knowhow or ambition to readjust the chain and was just wondering if maybe installing an msd ignition system would help at all. if you have any other suggestions feel free to elaborate.

Nope, I don't think that would help.

Which chain? The main sprocket chair or is it the chain on the cams? It's not that difficult to fix, just time consuming.

is there some way of finding out without having to dismantle the timing assembly or should i just take it all apart and reset everything to stock?

That sounds like your best bet. The kid that advanced that cam is an idiot....That is more than 7 degress advancement, with out an ecu tune.

Hm, so one link is ~7 degrees?

I've been curious how the powerband would fare on the strange R:S and long stroke of a KA if you were to retard the intake cam substantially for a later intake closing.

About 7 degress from what I read in an old Fresh Alloy thread..... I don't know how much truth there is to that though. I thought it would of been more...............That is still to far for stock timing...... The ecu can pretty much compensate anything within 3 degress on it's stock tune....

i dont know about retadrding the timing but my car the way the timing is now is making some nice power after about 3,000 rpms. you can really hear it take off after you get over 3,000! my mechanic says the compression is very high like over 200 psi on each cylinder i think.

wait, you said earlier that an ecu can compensate for about 3 degrees off stock timing?what about an after market ecu? could it maybe compensate for more?

A retuned ecu, or a standalone can easily work around the settings that you have. The problem with the stock tune and it's map was that it was meant to work best with a timing of 20BTDC, and all the smog equipment that it comes with...
