I have a 2009 Nissan Murano in which I need to run an independent 12 volt line directly from the battery terminals through the firewall up to the bottom of the dashboard.

Does anyone know an easy way to get through the firewall without drilling any holes? For instance, is there some existing holes that I might be able to squeeze some wire through.

I don't want to tap off any existing 12 volt wiring harnesses, however, I would be interested in that as a secondary option.

Thanks

Welcome to NICOclub! Glad to have you joining us here in the Murano Forum!

You know what I was able to do in the past on vehicles. One instance I was able to route the wires through the engine bay and up along the gap between the hood and the actual body of the car. Sounds strange, but sometimes there are a lot of space that you can tuck the wire into, I then ran the wire near the "hinges" on the door and tucked it in behind the weather stripping on the door.

I also powered a tv tuner on my '04 QX56 that I previously owned. I actually took power from the fuse box.

And on my '08 Armada, I just tapped off of a wire that powered one of the 12v outlets, that worked great.

There you have a few ideas, let me know what works out best for you! Good luck.

I know your pain :-)

I installed a power inverter and needed the same in the wife's 09. I could not find any existing holes/grommets that I could get to - they are there, just inaccessible etc..

What I did: I routed my wires down the inside of the frame rail (uni-body frame rails) on the drivers side to underneath the drivers seat (within back plastic conduit). There I drilled approx 1/2 inch hole and installed a grommet and ran the wires up under the seat/carpet then into the center console. I used 10 gage wire and its under the carpet until inside the console thus completely hidden. From there you can go forward to the dash area if you need to. Ensure to place your/a fuse up close to the battery connection - not at the other end.. And use some windshield putty/dumb-gum to seal up the wires/grommet area.

Good luck!

Thanks for sharing you experience. I have a friend that has a car repair shop with a lift, so I might be able to get to those grommets from underneath the car. I really hate drilling holes in a new car!
