Ok so i bought this 89 hatch with the stock ka24e in it not running. The guy before me did a head gasket on it because it blew and after he put it back together it hasnt ran yet. I bought it off him for cheap cuz i figured i could fix it no problem. Once i got the car i ripped the intake manifold off and checked all hoses and sensors and everything was all on correctly. Fixed a leaky injector and put the motor all back together. Went to start it and it runs but sounds like a Harley. It runs exactly the same with only the 1st and 4th cylinders plug wires connected. So basically it runs on 2 cylinders. this has me stumped

so far ive checked:Has fuel at every cylinder180psi compression every cylinderall plug wires workall plugs workFiring order is correct

only thing i can think of is timing... When the Crank is at 0 Degrees on TDC of compression stroke the mark on the cam gear is is facing to the right even with the top of the head.. Im pretty sure thats right.. and the Distributer is lined up with cylinder number 1 plug wire per the FSM

any suggestions guys?

Go to the technical pages and find the instructins for installing a new timing chain. Included are a couple of good pictures on how the cam etc should line up.

If you have fuel, spark and air then the only thing left is timing or possible bad ECU but I think you are on the right track with timing.

Double check that you ar at TDC ON THE COMPRESION STROKE of #1 and check the cam timing.

If the Oil pump was removed it can be a bear to get back in without being off 1 tooth. Oil pump and Distributor are diven by the same shaft.
