Ok, I sorted the fuel injector problem with my trusty multi-meter and now the z is running on all cylinders. However, there are two things which I have to really complain about..First is white smoke. I will for now, attribute this to the fact that there is a bunch of injector cleaner in the fuel tank and very little fuel. The smoke is also not sweet smelling so I am rather hoping that it is not a cracked head for head gasket. Also, the car has no power at all. The rpm's build very slowly when the petal is pushed to the floor. More like giant diesel tractor than a sports car actually.

I should mention this Non-Turbo 1983 z was sitting for a long time. Is it possible that the injectors are just plugged up? Any thoughts on the most likely culprits?

the injectors could be a problem first I'd drain the tnak and out some new gas in, then I'd check the timing, if that gets you no-where the afm might need to be dialed in, with the cover off of it you can rotate it a couple degrees each way and see if idle quality improves, if so move the ctch to reposition the gear to allow for more or less spring pressure as needed

Thanks for the reply. I have already drained the tank and replaced the filter. I also removed the injector and cleaned them as best I could. Although..as it was sitting so long there is a fair chance that it didnt do the trick.

I will also check the timing tomorrow.

Generally speaking, the idle sounds pretty good. It just revs like a almost dead dog.

Also regarding the white smoke.....is it possible that this is related to the fuel system cleaner and crap left in the manifold?

Is there a good article to adjust the AFM? I have a chilton repair manual, but I have to say that it is a terrible book. Somehow much harder for a peanut head like me to follow then a haynes manual.

Any other help would be great. I have zero experience on these cars. In fact, when I got it this week, that was the first time I was ever in one.

well if idle quality is good then I'd strongly suspect the afm, as for articles I'm not aware of any, it cooul dbe a bad afm in which case no amount of adjusting will help, and if the idle quality is good then it likely won't need adjusting but with the cover off, move the vane a few degrees each direction with light pressure of your finger, then rev the motor and see if ti helps at all, if so adjust the gear in that direction a few teeth at a time

I will try that, although I should point out that the afm was just installed new.

So, is it possible that its from the injectors?

I really doubt the injectors could cause all thsi dama, and honestly the smoke worries me, might want to run a compression test, might have a bad HG

Well, I have not done the compression test so far.

It is not smoking anymore, but the power is stuff terrible. 0-60 in 19 days.

Could it be the exhaust thats backed up? I cant think of something else to try actually. EDR or PCV? I am not seeing any vacuum leaks.

well if you're worried about the exhaust take it off, the EGR can stock open, just remove it and fashion a plug from some sort of plate stock, as the pcv you can just unscrew and plug to help narrow down the source of the problems
