I've seen different opinions and questions with regard to vacuum issues, unplugging half the spark plugs and EGR issues, so here is what I have personally done...

Spark Plugs: Due to having a spark knock issue with the dual plugs, we simply unplugged half the plugs. We are only using the exhaust side because it's easier to get to. We left the intake side spark plugs in just unplugged...

Vacuum: Due to a vacuum leak issue we took the entire vacuum system off with exception of the spark advance and brake booster pump. Those are the only two that MUST be hooked up. Everything else is capped...

EGR: We took off the egr valve and plugged the hole on the intake manifold and exhaust manifold...

We also took off the air filter Pre-Heater and plugged the holes for that on the exhaust manifold.

The truck has been running with these modifications for several years with no problems while averaging between 24 and 28 mpg. In cold weather, I always press the gas pedal to the floor and let up to set the choke before starting.
