Running Lights/Taillight Issue

I'm having an issue with my 98 240. Here's EXACTLY what happened. I took the corner light bulbs out to see what it would look like with just the low beams on since the corner bulbs don't really match up to the hid's. anyway.

After I put the corner light lenses back in, I turned the headlights on, without the key in...and nothing. I put the bulbs back in. Turned the lights onto just the running lights and they came on with the usual beeping with the door open. After about 20 seconds of this, they just cut off. Even the beeping stopped as well.

If I start the car the low beams come on, but no corner lights (yes, the bulbs are back in), no running lights, and no taillights. The brake lights still light when I press the brake pedal.

So basically I have no running lights/driving lights with the car on or off.

I have searched, but nothing seems to come up with the particular issue.

Any help that can be provided will be appreciated.

Also, at this moment I have only checked the interior fuses with all of them still being in good shape. Other than that, I have not tried anything further.

symptoms sound like a light stalk, but i'm not sure why it would suddenly mess up when changing a bulb.

*edit* i assume the light stalk is the actual stalk coming off the steering column that controls the lights?
