Running Crappy Please Help!

I have a 91 Nissan 240SX, with a 198,000 but did run strong. I had it sitting for a couple of months startewd it up changed oil and little stuff.Well lastnight decided to get on it a bit on highway, and car now runs like ****!!! I am soo bummed out as I did so much work and just purchased a new motor but won';t be in for 6 weeks. I need help when the car starting runnig crappy the RPM's were at 2500 without me giving it any gas. Then I shut the car off. Now when I start it it will not stay on under 1000 RPM. I gotta give it gas to keep it running, and it runs so crappy and choppy. I called around they said its the EGR Valve anyone else has any items???? Someone please ANSWER ASAP!!! THANKS A MILLION!

well, if its the egr valve then you could remove the valve and block it off to keep it running ok in the meantime. removing the egr valve on a sohc is kind of time consuming. you opened up the throttle a lot? you may have had a lot of carbon and some came off. in that case you may have confused the ecm of its tps reading. this can cause rough idle/stalling and even high idle. the good news is that if thats all it is, then it will go away on its own over time.

I talked to a head mechanic and he said it could be the EGR valve and gave me the same advise you did to block it off.

I am hoping thats all it is.

Any other ideas on what it could be besides that?> My finance looked at it when it starting runny crapping( remind you it was night time) and did notice that the EGR valve was stuck open. So hoping thats all it is. I did see it was pretty hard to get to,k the mechanic said he would do it for nothing because its my dad's bestfriend if my finance can't get to it.!
