Can they be taken off easily? I would hope they are just bolted on, not welded

Yeah its 3 bolts on 3 separate brackets so 9 bolts per side. I want to say its a 14mm socket and you will need a deep well to get at them easier with a extension. It should only take you 10 minutes a side to do just be careful that they dont fall down on you when you unbolt them, mine stayed on cause mud was jamming them in place lol. Take pics I wanna see how it looks on a stock pathy

actually it's 3 brackets per side, 2 bolts per bracket, so 6 bolts per side.

Spray with PB Blaster/Oil Penetrate etc, let it soak. If they arent real rusted, should be very easy as said. The smaller bolts seem to be snapping from rust on my Path but these bolts which have direct contact with salt etc held up just fine. Probably the easiest parts I have removed on the Path.

I used penetrating fluid up the wazoo and a torch and it was still near impossible to take them off, those bolts are strong though I was lucky and didnt strip anything. Make sure you get someone to help you hold stuff, preferably someone with old man strength

I got them off tonight, ended up being more of a hassle than I expected. First I had no jack so it was kind of awkward getting underneath. Then I got to my 3rd bolt and it was stripped. Couldn't even get a crescent wrench to get a snug fit around it. Finally I got the idea of asking a neighbor for a metric set to see if the size difference would do it, sure enough it did the trick. Finally got them all off once the sun had set. That being said I can't really say how much it changes the looks.

I'll snap pics sometime for you silvapathy

Oh, and I was also going to take off mudflaps but it kind of seems like they are built in to the design of the truck, not sure how it would look with them off. I'll just keep them on for the time being, as long as it doesn't look funny with no running boards.

Yeah pretty much every bolt on our trucks is going to be Metric, atleast most of the ones I have dealt with. With the exception of a few suspension parts which have standard. As for the mud flaps, the fronts should come off relatively easy, when I took my front ones off it was only a few screws and some pins but the screws broke off in the thread so there was no putting them back on lol.

It's a Japanese-designed vehicle. 99% of it is going to be designed using the metric system. I haven't encountered a non-metric bolt, though admittedly I haven't had to tinker with the suspension yet. (I'm actually skeptical about imperial bolts used in the suspension... was it original suspension parts or aftermarket?)

If you don't believe it, check out the service manual. Every measurement is given in metric first -- and usually a round metric number with a randomly gibberish of a imperial number, like "5mm (0.197in)".

Yeah im positive that the rear shock mount bolts are not metric, and im pretty sure the front strut bolts are standard also. But the funny thing is those bolts are just over a size 18 metric so its as if the biggest metric size they used is a 18mm. I dont ever recall using a 19mm socket on anything.

Um am I just a little late to answer your request? Haha, had my camera with me today so I decided to snap some pics without the running boards.

The stock Running boards are now discontinued, i have a friend that works for nissan and he could not order the running boards for the r30 because of this reason, i very much like the look of the stock boards to the after market ones. Am still trying to find them for my r30. Good looking pathy!!!!!!

lol its a pathfinder.. u dont need to jack it up to get under dude, as for the boards... i remember taking mine off only 3 bolts came out the rest snapped even after soaking for hours, once their off it does look a lot more aggressive and higher.

I agree they look better without them but the oversized wheels/tires are throwing up debris on the body which the running boards kept to a minimum. Too bad they rust like junk
