hi, ive been looking around for running boards for my truck. when i bought it, it didnt have any. with talking to the junkyards ive found they are known to rot out the mounts. my questions are if i got a set that had rotten mounts, how hard would making mounts be? i dont even know what they look like at this point, so i have nothing to base from, but im pretty damn good with a welder and grinder, so are the mounts something i could fabricate from scrap and stock steel andstill get them to hold the boards? also, i have an 01,the boards i found are from a 99, are they the same? i checked at infiniti, they have different part numbers, even if they are both black. that doesnt mean they are different, just that they have different numbers. if anyone can help me out with some info, or even take some pics of the mounts or boards off so i can get a feel for how this might go, that would be awesome!
thanks

On my 03 Qx4 I removed the old boards, took apart, cut off old mounting brackets with a cutting wheel. Take photos and measurements as you disassemble. I bought two new 6 foot zinc plated square tubes at Menards, 1 inch square, perforated with holes about every inch. I found a guy on CL looking for welding projects. He welded the old brackets onto the new tubes for $120. Cost of tubes $50, total cost = $170. There are several posts on this board with detailed instructions and photos. It is not a difficult project if you can weld the brackets, and are careful to get them in the right place. My boards look great and are solid. If you can find a junkyard set make sure you get all the old brackets.

I'll sell the boards off of my 01 and the brackets have ZERO rust but shipping would probably cost an arm and a leg. PM me if you're interested.
