well i've been searching and found little info about anyone running a t-25 on a ka24de, is it worth it?? i can get a t-25 (like off the sr) for cheap, will there be any decent gains on a ka?? i plan to use the jgs mani, and run with the t-25 for a little bit, then upgrade to a t-28 later..i can get these turbos for cheap, lots of my buddies here have sr's but are upgrading to t3/14 turbos and are getting rid of their turbos for cheap. i want to stay ka for simplicity and to be different then sr junkies otherwise known as "my friends". any kinda of research or imput would be helpful. what gains are to be expected with the t-25 and t-28??

Just from looking at people's signatures and what not, it seems like there are a lot of KA guys running in the 6-10psi range. That's right where the T-25 likes to operate.

go get a flow chart for whatever T-25 you want to run, and see if flows enough for your engine. oh wait. it doens't. nevermind.

t25 = too small, you WILL simply drop off and choke out the motor. you must understand, ALL of your exhaust now has to move through this turbo, smallness like the stock SR t25 will simply choke out the engine past 5.5-6k rpm. Now ofcoarse I don't have the flow charts to back this up, so feel free to go find them and double check me on this.

edit * i should clarify it will drop off to 5-7psi usually, is 5-7 is all you are running to begin with, then you might be in the clear, but i dont know how great the restriction would be on the whole setup.

so you think that the t-25 is too small....well on that turbo i was just planning to run about 7psi only, but oh well. how do you guys think a t-28 will be like??

I would suggest just going with T3 if you are looking for low psi with quick spool. Which it sounds like you want.

you could probably do an ultra ghetto turbo setup with a t-25, log style manifold and 5 psi w/o changing your fuel system. probably get 200whp with a nice exhaust. i bet you could run that w/o an intercooler as well. There would be nothing that would spool faster than that.

except something even smaller. which would be even worse at high boost.

yeah thats what I'm thinking, sr20 turbos are usually like 50 bucksyou can get an old ford T3 or volvo T3 that while small, are in most cases better suited than a T25, and they can be found for 30

well can somebody hook me up with a t3 for cheap and still in good condition?? everybodies talking but no ones walking. the reason i brought up the info about t-25's is because i can get them for cheap( hey who the hell here is rich, if so they would go with a rb25 or better) and still in good condition. there is nothing wrong with trying to save some money..those old t3's are usually beat up and needs a build up, not 30 no more, it's more around 150 after the build up..

any turbo off an sr is gonna be in the same shape if not worse. a 180sx or a silvia in japan nearing the end of its lifestyle is cheap, relatively fast, and the owner knows its time with him is limited. That means they get driven HARD and put up WET... not the best for the lifespan of the car.

Try your local junkyard, you can find some z31 T3s in pretty decent shape. Even if it needs a rebuild, 150 isn't that exspensive compared to other turbos. So really you would be saving probably 200 bucks at the least when you compare it to a new T3.

osofasts, I'm with you man. I'm going to try the T25 setup too. I know alot of people on this board are shooting for over 300 hp or what not. But I'll be happy with 200 at the wheel and the entire setup costing around 800 bucks

I think that's all I need since the labor will be free also.

That would be a powerful install Xren17. I'd love to see you complete that setup for dirt cheap. put some $$ in there for oil and possibly water lines as well.

The oil line is included in the DIY manifold from JYS since the exhaust flange is 60, the turbo flange is 30 and the rest are oil pick up and return. The t25 I'm getting is oil cool only so that's one less thing to worry about. I know it would be hard as hell to keep price down this low if I wasn't getting the welding and piping done for free. I'll be back with pics and my impression of the setup once it's completed.

Buy a T3/T4. You'll be happy with the T25 for a couple of days then you'll want more. Spool up is relatively quick and the power is awesome.

FWIW i made 240 at the wheels with a turbo smaller than a T25 (mitsubishi TD05-12B), WITH a manifold exhaust leak.

And since you people always want proof:

Theory: small turbos are inefficient at high boost levels. therefore, use a very efficient intercooler:

As for what manifold to use...SS autochrome manifold reflanged for a KA:Positions the turbo perfectly to use an SR downpipe and IC piping. And yes, going to a T25 can be called an "upgrade" for my KA.

how many psi and what modifications were performed for that run?

Is that an efficient intercooler? What is the pressure drop across it? It looks like alot of air volume to pressurize. Even though you have a small turbo, it still has to pressurize the air between it and the intake manifold. Any lag problems? I like your exhaust manifold. Who makes it and how much did it cost?Let us know the specifics on your run as Andrave asks.

8psi set but leaked to below 7 up top (i've held 10 up top previously), no boost controller so it even hesitated building boost part way through (you can see where the torque flattens for a sec), NPR FMIC (volumewise the same as a Greddy, but a larger face), 370cc injectors, hacked MAF, 2.5" downpipe, RT cat, greddy DD exhaust, electric fans.

Manifold is the SS autochrome manifold with a KA flange welded on.

yeah that was what i was asking for, hard proof, not estimations, or guesses. with you making that much hp with the small td05 turbo(even though i know some mitsu gurus around me have made about 270-290 with the td05 turbos on their cars), we should make a decent amount with the t-25's(off the sr's). my theory was, the sr's have .4 less displacement, but rev higher to make there power,(not even putting the ca into account where they rev even higher, they use t-25's as upgrades to there small stock turbo) as a ka we should make decent hp with the more displacement and taking into consideration we don't need to rev that high. thanks for the help and keep it coming. i'm gonna run a t-25 for awhile just to see how it goes. i will dyno it and let you guys know. and for reference; my friend, who is selling the t-25 has only about 40km on his car, and his turbo has no leaks or no shaft play, plus the infamous money back guarantee. (he lives next door to me)
