Anyone thinking of buying a 335i with run flat tires should take the time to read the posts in this link:

That's a big part of why I decided to go G37 instead of 328i coupe.

If you read some of the BMW forums, including BMWCCA, you will see that many owners are up in arms about the failings of run-flats. Quite a few have replaced the run-flats with conventional tires even before the run-flats were worn out. The problem, then, is what to do in case of a flat since there is no longer a place in the car for a spare tire.

If I remember correctly, BMW has not put run-flats on the M cars.

It seems like BMW is catering to people who would rather drop $300 to $500 on a flat tire than change it themselves or wait for a tow truck to come.

Check this out. A group of BMW owners is filing a class action complaint against BMW. Its amazing anyone is buying their cars.

The complaint blog says it all:

Nor me. Interesting info ... the lack of room for a spare in the trunk seems amazingly short-sighted too.

Run-flats SUCK. They're heavy and hard to balance.

Besides, most modern super-low profile tires of GOOD quality can safely be driven a few miles at low speeds on no pressure.

Bought a BMW, but can't afford Roadside Assistance?

FAIL.

That sucks but crappy tires really wouldnt influence my decision. Its not like I would let them last very long with over 300 ft lb of torque to the wheels anyway.

Of all the groups to biatch about another car companies tires, it had to be the INFINITI group. Love the G, but it has one of the WORST tire eating suspensions on the road, thus the lawsuit. The front suspension is flawed, that is a unanimous and accepted fact in the G community. Tires scallop, MAJOR road noise, loud Roar after 6-10k miles.Hundreds of threads about this on this site and G35driver.com.

As far as the BMW problem, it's not from BMW building a bad suspension or a flawed suspension (such as the case with nissan/infiniti), RUN FLATS are just not perfected. They are a MORE EXPENSIVE TIRE than a standard tire and far more expensive than what Infiniti puts on their cars. So how is it that you blame BMW for trying to put BETTER tires on the car? If they were doing it to be CHEAP, they would put cheap regular tires on it. This isn't a cost saving decision. Run flats come on some Honda's , Toyotas, and many other brands . They are trying to give you a better tire. You cant blame the tire situation on BMW, all manufacturers that have tried run flats are having same problems now.

Settle down.

Run-flats have sucked for over a decade, Corvette owners know it very well.

It's a dumb fix anyway... Although, I guess it make sense, most BMW owners don't know how to change a tire.

p.s. Infiniti puts crap tires on damn near every car they build. First mod on ANY new Infiniti should be tires.

FYI, while the most recent M3 indeed didn't have run flat tires, it also didn't have a spare. It had a puncture repair kit.
