Hi,

I have a 2005 Pathfinder LE 4x4 with 130k miles. I had the radiator failure (engine coolant entered transmission fluid) back at 103k miles so there is some minor damage that causes slow shifting or a nice steady whine at say 1,700 RPM. I was able to catch the problem and have a stand-alone transmission cooler.

Recently I heard a very faint rumbling and slight vibration when I turn to the right going at or about 30 to 40 mph.

My immediate thought is:
power steering rack
wheel bearing (but why only right turn)
a control arm on the driver side?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

racerken

Typically, that's a CV axle.

Fortunately, it's not an expensive fix, and you can inspect the wheel bearing (and replace if needed) when the axle is changed.

AZhitman, do you know what size socket is required for the drive shaft lock nut?

Thanks!!!

I now thing that the problem is two-fold:
Wheel Bearing/Hub
+
Front Drive shaft.

The rumble frequency increases with speed and only when I turn right...
Hence right side bearing and shaft?

Sound sane?

Anyway, I still think that the power steering gear is acting up but it's not a cheap fix so I'm praying....
