Hello everyone

I didn't want to bother SanoSuKe for the 100th time on Facebook. Hopefully I'll have the same assistance he's been offering me! :yesnod

Anyway, some of you may have seen my new wheel setup (18x9 +35 wrapped with 245/45/18 on coils). At first I thought the fitment was great, unfortunately, 2 days later (that's today, I don't drive my car much), I noticed some noise from the back wheels every time I drive over an irregularity on the road, yes I was rubbing, fortunately it isn't so bad.

I guess I was lucky I didn't find a shop with a small enough jack to fit under the car, as I need to balance the wheels. Otherwise I would have been driving like a maniac and would have never noticed this.

The outer 1cm of the tires (tread area) is hitting the fender every time I drive over a speed bump or an incline.

I think I rub the most when I enter my driveway, here are some pics

Now I think I have 4 options at this point:
1. some -ve camber: In my opinion this is the best option, the car will look better too! I was thinking since I might have a negative camber at the back, I might as well put back my old 10mm wheel spacers. Or will I rub with the wheel spacers and -ve camber? Do I need a camber kit?

2. Roll the fenders: I don't think anyone does that in Dubai, and frankly I don't want to mess with the body of the car.

3. Buy smaller tires (NO PLEASE!)

4. raise the car (If all else fails, I would do that)

I really want your opinions on this, I don't have the heart to keep driving the car with the tires rubbing.

Waiting for your replies!

I'm running 18x9 +32 with 235/45-18's all around on the Eibach springs and don't have any rubbing issues. I'd try raising the car fist to see how much it alleviates the problem since that's the easiest solution (assuming you can adjust that yourself like with most coilovers). It looks like the rubbing isn't too bad, so rolling the very top of the fender might get you enough clearance. You could theoretically do this yourself with a jack, wood baseball bat, heat gun (to warm the paint and keep it from cracking), and a whole lot of patience and courage (neither of which I have lol). Adding more negative camber will make you go through tires pretty quickly but it would likely fix the issue. I don't think you'd need a camber kit because the stock setup seems to offer enough of a range to solve your problem from what I saw when I dropped my car/before getting it aligned.

Thanks Mr. Music for your response

Unfortunately I also don't have the courage to roll the fenders. lol
And the whole concept of rolling the fenders is not clear to me, so that isn't an option.

I know -ve camber will make me go through tires quickly, some guy at a tire shop I went to today kept warning me about having -ve camber. But does any -ve camber cause the tires to wear quickly? I'm planning to have just enough camber to clear the fenders.

-1.5 or -2 camber degrees should clear the fenders. And it won't look weird.

I highly recommend rolling the fenders because if you daily drive the car ..camber won't help your wallet in the long run. Touch your front fenders from the inside and then touch the rears, the fronts come rolled from factory. That will help you understand the concept of rolling the fenders.

roll the fenders, bring it to a shop they usually charge $25 a corner. they use a machine and heat guy to roll it, basically the inside peice of your fender gets folded so it wont rub on it, best solution!

Sano, define "it won't look weird" please?

Good news though! I found a shop that does fender rolling! I have no idea how the fenders will look like.
I'm leaning more towards the -ve camber, but I don't think I can afford buying new tires every 3 months.
I'll talk to the shop soon, if they do a good job I will roll the fenders

Thanks guys!

I think it is.. weird

I don't mind a tiny bit of camber, I actually think it will look cool! But surely nothing like that picture!

Sano, I think you're running some camber, ya?

There is a lip on the inside of the fender that you would "roll" and it folds it flat inside the wheel well. Usually not noticeable from the outside unless you "pull" your fenders, which involves flaring out the panels. Rolling is probably the best option if you don't want to run through tires. However, -1.5 shouldn't hurt the tires too much if you ask me as long as your toe is in check.

And don't do what I quoted lol. That has to be like -10 or something ridiculous.

Dude

Just have a shop trip the fenders. I know Dubai does tons of body work (mostly hideous) and in your case all you need is .5 inches trimmed off.

It's an easy and inexpensive job.

Your fitment will NOT look on-point without it I'm afraid because the fender lip simply takes up too much room.

I was planning to get a -ve camber, but I just talked to the shop, they said they will roll the fenders, and no one will ever notice that they're rolled.
He seemed confident too. I'm going there soon, I'll update you once I'm done!

I wonder how the car will look like if the fenders were pulled!

you're right, I've done some searching online. -Ve camber DOES NOT cause excessive or uneven tread wear, or at least not without an unbalanced toe.
yeah, I got -5.4 rears
Sano, you're crazy!!!

lol agreed! But they mostly do the hideous stuff with fiber glass from scratch. And they charge a lot $$$$.

I will update you in a few hours!

Ok, I went to the shop, and got my fenders rolled!

I got to say, if any of you were in Dubai, I would highly recommend this shop. Very professional!

I know it doesn't look much different, but that's because I put my 10mm wheel spacers back!

Image

just a few millimetres away from the rolled fender, but the guy at the shop said that even if I rub, it won't be a problem now since the fenders are rolled. Plus, now with the wheel spacers, the back end looks sexy! I'm so tempted to get the 275 tyres now!

Sadly, one of the work lugs got screwed up. I had to put back my OEM lugs.

Thank you!

I'd really love to slam it, but unfortunately that's as low as I can go. If I go any lower I won't be able to make it into my garage :tisk:

And, I don't have any room for the front tires, any lower and I won't be able to turn the wheels. I really wonder how some people slam their cars. Tires with small side walls?
