The "paint on" products are better, but they are rather difficult to apply, assuming that you don't have any equipment to paint a car with. I used two coats of 3M's product on my truck to help protect it from salt/rust (used to have a boat), and it noticeably lowered noise levels in the cab. Of course, using a sound deadener like Dynamat or B-quiet would provide much better results. Either way, you have nothing to loose by applying the spray on product. If you end up dissatisfied with it, it wouldn't have cost much, and you can still apply a sound deadener inside the car.
