I'm refreshing a KA that I picked up with a BHG. Seems like kind of a silly question, but do the colors of the RTV mean anything? I have a red tube and a black tube, and I'm wondering if I should use black for any oil seals and red for any coolant seals... or does it even make a difference?

Thanks.

there is red, blue, black and white..some are more temperature sensitive than others..read the labels carefully as this will be your key to decoding what is best to use for your specific building project..good luck.

Blacks high temp, i know that.

If it helps at all, you want to use blue for your timing chain covers..

Damn, I had compared the labels and couldn't find a difference, guess I'll grab a tube of blue for the timing ****.

Thanks.

Pretty sure I saw a report on tv about this a long time ago. They said that black is the best, but blue and red still sell because of the color....

Permatex Ultra Grey for everything nissan related. Best stuff made IMO, iv used them all. Nissan FSMs recommend this style of RTV, the 'high torque' RTV.

lol, k. Buy into the gimmicks if you want.

I've sealed a crankcase on a 480 cubic inch flat 6 pushing more than 22 psi with nothing more than a piece of string and proper torque specs on the bolts, without a single problem.

Btw, I clicked your link and the first product that came up was "high temp" RED. But go ahead, listen to the salesman.

480sx just switched me to ultra grey, can't go wrong with the FSM.

Man, you owned yourself pretty bad there bub.

Real world experience + FSM's > info gained from some permatex salesmen while in school rotf.

Honestly though i have heard some really good things about honda bond too, but i havnt had the balls to try it yet. Kinda like.. Stick with what works ya know?

Also, make sure to follow the directions on the back of the tube. Most people dont, and there is a very important step that most people do not take.
