I have a 89 240sx with a SOHC KA24E engine. I am going to be replacing the valve cover gasket because oil is leaking. The parts guy at the Nissan dealer where I got the gasket says I do not need any RTV. Searching this forum seems to indicate I might.

Could anyone please confirm whether I need to use RTV or not, and if I need to use it then what kind?

Thanks

No need to use RTV with solid gaskets. But if you have half-moon plugs, you do need RTV on the underside.

Half moon plugs = the half circle piece that covers the part of the head that lets you put a socket to the cam bolt.

RTV is that liquid silicone gasket stuff. Common stuff is Permatex or you could fork out the $$$ for the oem Nissan stuff. They're both a orange/redish color
