Hi there.. I have searched and could not find anything on this problem.. . I have a 94 Q45t and the right rear tie rod un-screws out of the cylinder assembly on its own.. This has happend twice now and the rt rear wheel makes its own turn... Im worried that at high speeds it may depart again and cause a collision.. Is there some way to lock it in there? Thank you for any response....

Hi! Try posting and searching in the Infiniti Online Mechanic Forum.

You have HICAS, so I assume you are speaking of the HICAS adjustment rod behind the axle?

Does it unscrew from the HICAS steering rack or the spindle?

Hello again.. Yes , I am speaking of the rod in the rear of the car that you can adjust the rear wheel alignment at. , It unscrews out of the HICAS steering rack on its own... Thanking you for your imput...

Thank you for your response.. I may of not been clear on this, but as I see it.. The four wheel steering on the rt rear is moving outward but not returning inward on its own.. Is this how the Hicas system works? Thanks for any advise...

ok I see what your saying... I wonder if a return spring or something isnt right? thats an interesting issue.. That almost sounds like something in the HICAS rack..

I wonder if a Z32 HICAS eliminator would work on a Q45?

At low speed, the initial turn is opposite of the front, but at high speed, it is in the same direction as the front. In all cases, it is less than 1°. Invisible to the naked eye when static. What are your alignment specs on a Hunter machine?

The HICAS operation is intimately dependent on the condition of your PS fluid, so let's look there also.

What is it's condiiton and when was it last mechanically exchanged?

Thank you for all the great help.. To my knowledge it has never been changed.. The initial problem was a leak in the power steering return line and that was repaired. My friend who owns the car kept adding fluid..I can go back a bit further on this., He had is tires rotated at big o and they had placed the jack under the tie rod in question and had bent it.. When he got home he said his car isnt rolling right.. I looked under it and noticed the problem.. He went back to big o and they changed the tie rod for him at there expense.. This was about 8 months ago..When it rolled out twice now since ,I screwd it back in...but im worried hes gonna make a u turn on on the high speed freeway he commutes too.. Thank you for your imput.. You Folks are GREAT....

I STRONGLY recomend an immediate return to BIG O advising them of the unsafe condition! Direct them to take the car to an Infiniti Dealer for proper repairs (at Big O's expense of course--AND furnish a rental car in the interim. This condition MAY be un-safe. It certainly will cause rapid tire wear.

good lord why on EARTH woudl you put a jack on the tie rod?? how stupid can you possibly be????

Its very likely they have compeltely screwed up the HICAS rack.... which is a shame because they dont fail very often (at least i havent heard of any HICAS related problems)

Howdy.. I guess the youngster jacking it up didnt suspect tie rods in the rear ,nor cared to look. I am not for certain what outfit it was ,all I know is the place is no longer there.. I have bought the car from him as he has gotten fed up with it.. I would like to know if there may be a fix that I can attempt instead of replacing the unit itself.. Thank you Elwesso and folks for any response..

Texasoil told you precisely what needs to be done.

You are not qualified to do this assessment and repair yourself. It is a very dangerous situation Big O has created and should be rectified at the local Infiiti dealer at Big O's expense.

Please reconsider for your friend's safety and sake.

If the part that was changed is not functioning properly, then we must assume that whoever did the install did not do something correctly.

I would never trust a place that would jack up a car on its control arms to do any type of repairs.

My suggestion is for you to get a known good HICAS assembly (used, of course) and install it.

Problems like this are the reason I don't take my car to a mechanic or any shop.

I don't even take the car for tire changing or balancing. I just take the wheels and tires.

One time I felt a bit lazy and decided to take the car to have the tires balanced. That was the first time in a long time.

That day one of their high school age tire monkeys cross-threaded the lugs. Lesson learned on my part.

Thank you all for the fine advice... I will look for a used Hicas and install it.. The tire shop where he had the work done is gone now and I wonder why?? I will do repairs on my own in the future ( Hell I can screw it up myself for free )and even take the tires off and bring them in to have them mounted as Sijoko mentioned.... Bye for now and thanks again....
