Dec 2002 C&D has an interesting artlcle about a $5380 delear installed upgrade for the RSX:With 1" lowering springs , new shocks, and bars, new 17" wheels and 20 mm wider [225/45/17] 17" ES100 tires they achieved a 6% improvement in g's [to 0.88G] and a 6% faster emergency lane change [to 62.5 mph] !The tires and pads and drilled rotors reduced the 70-zero braking by 10%. .....to a BEST of 175 feet more than 20 feet longer than the heavier G35 [excellant front rear distribution].

This was on a 2736 pound car.

See why I say on a 4100 pound Q, 3% handling and 5% braking improvements are the norm [for a few thousand] and 5% handling and 7% shorter braking might be achievable without regard to cost.

My guess is the suspension changes account for a 2% or third of improvement and the wider sticker higher load rated ties the other 2/3!

Remember the weight pretty well limits a Q to just under 0.8 G handling no matter how much you spend!

Most of the ones I test are lucky to make 0.68G [TIRES and worn shocks] and a 50 mph lane emergency change is out right dangerous.

Quote »a 50 mph lane emergency change is out right dangerous[/quote] Especially without a rear sway bar, in my opinion. Rear end gets a little too jacked, floaty, and uncontrolled in transition back to desired heading.

Speaking of the rear sway bar. I just purchased some rear tokico blues for my 96t and wasn't sure what other items I should replaced while doing the shocks? I have purchased the covers and plan to replace those. I am also unclear on if the "t" model has a rear sway bar or if I ought to be adding one when the shocks are installed?

Thanks for your help.

But the t bar is only 15.9 mm and exterts at most 12 pounds per inch of body roll .....so it adds 10% to rear spring stiffness in roll ....reducing the total roll by at most 0.315"The 20 mm bar is 40 pounds per inch wheel rate reducing the roll by about 0.9".

The rear bar is not there to reduce roll as much as it is to shift the severe understeer more towards more moderate understeer for the experienced driver. .....who would expect that from a touring 't' car.

This primarily affects the feel of the turn and how much you have to turn the steering wheel to accomplish the turn.

All things being equal the rear sway bars of any size or none have very little effect on the ultimate handling at most 1.5%!

But most drivers are not skilled enough to get close to ultimate handling as the car feels dangerous and uncontrolled without bars.

They were out of the fronts and will have them in about one month. I will have them done then.

measurements? all the Q45t cars [90-96] have a 15.9 mm rear bar [with or without HICAS] and a reduced from 29 to 28 mm front bar.

Was HICAS a separate option from the T package?

No,

HICAS was associated with the"t" package and unavailable as a stand alone.

Import Tuner covered the RSX "Factory Performance" line a long time ago.I think it looks nice, great idea by Acura.

The point was that with all the factory engineers and almost unlimited money 6% improvement in handling was all they could get. The 10% improvement in braking was significantly longer than the stock Q or G35.

Just want to make sure members understand the limits and a 6% improvement in handling may make a 100% worse ride on anything less than a smooth road!
