yeah as Wes said....I would recommend other mods first before doing the 4.08 due to the cost and difficulty. In short, you have to find a damn good driveline shop that would even consider what you want to do then locate a pumpkin just incase $hit happens like blowing up your rearend (and it does just look at my pic gallery) and then pay $700 in new parts from Joe for all NA 300ZX 4.08 internals and then do a little dance, go to church and pray that is all works. If you are lucky on the first shot, it will cost you at least $1,200 when all is said and done. It does make the car more fun around town....but if I had to do it all over again I would have probably spent the monies partying my butt off in the Bahamas for a week. Much more return of pleasure for my monies

The problem is the 4 speed gear span it was optimized for MPG [55-60 mph] in 4th gear with 3.538 and Q weight.

To match a new M45 in 1st gear the 4.083 falls way short a ~~4.50-4.60 is required.

A 90-93 Q has a 9.85 total gear multiplication at launch. 11.367 for a 4.083IDEALLY a 12.5-13:1 will give the best launch and acceleration in 1st gear.
