Hey, guys.

Need help... and soon!

I am having a company in my hometown make me a custom one-piece driveshaft and they need the dimensions for the length of the splines on the output shaft... Obviously the splines start immediately at the back of the tail housing on the transmission, but how deep do they go? 2 inches? 3 inches? 5 inches? Seems like the whole output shaft has about 5-6inches before you hit the seal on the case, but how much of that is splined?

I have been searching google for about 2 hours and can't find a single picture of the transmission with the tail housing off so that I could make a guess at how deep the splines go.

For those who don't know, the RS5R30A is the 5-speed manual transmission out of the Z32 300zx (1990-1996 in the U.S.).

Yes, I know that you can buy a one-piece driveshaft online from Z1 or ConceptZ or similar companies, but a close friend of my family owns a driveline shop and can give me cost for everything, so it will only cost me $80 for a one-piece 3" steel driveshaft. Yes, I also know that you can get them in aluminum, but I don't want aluminum. He has aluminum shafts he can use, but for my applications I want to have a stiffer shaft, because I will be doing a v8 swap in a few months.

Hopefully this has cleared up all arguments to what I am trying to do, and I can just get the answer I am looking for.

Thanks for any help guys!
