I feel like I'm asking to get flamed, but I did a search and didn't find much. Does anybody here have any experience with the RS-R race springs or megan lowering springs?

Me and my buddy are planning on autocrossing next year in my s13 and his z31 but we both have rotten suspensions to replace. I'm looking for a spring that will perform better than something like s-tech's but not as extreme as a full coilover setup. The spring rates for both of these seem to lie somewhere in between.

before u get flamed...... im running megan springs right now on stock struts. the ride is pretty harsh if u do alot of city drivin. they handle pretty well too, i kno it can be alot better with struts and other suspension parts but im poor lol. but to stay on topic they're not bad at all, the drop isnt that great but slight noticable. with the stock struts i have alot of wheel hop on bump roads but around corners theyre pretty solid. not to bad for driftin also.

That sounds more or less like what I was expecting. The advertised spring rates for the rs-r springs are a little lower than the megan's so maybe I'll go with those. Now I just got to pick a shock that will stand up to them.

I had the RSR race springs on Koni yellows for a few years. I loved the way it felt.

But when I took them off the car recently to sell them, the front dampers had lost quite a bit of damping pressure, but the rears were fine.

So yeah, they felt really good for autocross, they were a bit soft for road course though. I would recommend ground control coilovers.

Thats actually the spring/shock combo I was thinking of putting together. The only thing I don't like about the Koni's is having to use the stock strut housing for the fronts, but the only other choices that I know of are AGX's or Tokico blues. I don't think the AGX's would go well with the rs-r springs and I don't really know much about the tokicos. I'm assuming the Koni's would be my best bet.

It was really good, like I stated before.

I don't know why exactly, but both of the fronts did lose dampening sometime in the few years that I had them installed. Whether the springs were too much or if I just hit something at some point, im not sure.

If I were you I would do one of two things:

Buy Koni yellows and RSR race springs, and have the konis valved specifically for those spring rates,

or

buy ground control coilovers, and have them revalved for those spring rates.

but also consider, by the time you buy the dampers, springs, and have them re-valved, you've already spent almost as much as a decent set of threaded coilovers, especially if you ever decide to get adjustable camber plates. Price it all out and be smart about it.

I definitely would not install anything more than maybe some S.Techs on KYBs or Tokicos, they will be blown in a hurry.

i've got the tokico blues, and i really like the ride, they're somewat stiff, but i've never had problems with them. the install is pretty easy too, i didn't even need a spring compressor and had the job done in a couple hrs.

Thats because your stock struts are blown. 15 year old struts cannot handle aftermarket springs. Hell , most aftermarkt struts cant handle aftermarket springs if the rate it to high.

To the OP. RSR springs and konis are a PERFECT match. My neighbor has them. Very comfy yet trackable

actually im not running the OEM struts. im running some napa monroe replacement struts which are not blown. BTW i had this strut abd spring combo for over a year now with approx 20,000 miles on it and still rising. im really shocked they lasted this long. the struts themselves though have well over 75,000 miles. maybe im just lucky lol i dunno
