So I installed a new "cold air intake" several weeks ago and ever since my G35 idles at below 1000 RPMs. Sometimes when I start er up it'll even stall out if I don't rev it up after turning the ignition. What gives, and how can I fix it? Also How does the "cold air intake" affect gas mileage?
Thanks for your advice.

what kind of intake did you get?

was the MAF properly and gently removed and reinstalled?

I have the Stillen Gen 3 on my G35 and it idles cold about 1000RPM and warm right at 600RPM. Never dies or sputters. I'm pretty sure this is exactly what it idled at before I installed the intake.

I have an Insys usa intake I bought on the cheap on eBay ($45). Performance dif has been notable. How can you go wrong with a cone filter and an alluminum pipe right?
Anyways, I was very careful with the removal of the old and insallation of the new. I might try replacing the MAF sensor, but honestly doubt that's the prob. I am wondering if reseting the computer will do anything. How do you do that anyways? Just disconnect the battery??? Also...I never paid any attention to where it idled at prior to the addition. Not really until it stalled out actually.
Thanks for your input so far...

Warm idle should be 650 +/- 50 rpm. If it's stalling then you may have a leak in the intake after the MAF sensor, or at the MAF sensor itself. Go over all your work.

ECU reset can be done by disconnecting batt and pumping brakes a few times. I'm doubtful that's the issue but it's easy enough to give it a try.

If it was an oil'd cone filter - cheapie type, I'd look closely to see if oil was drawn back into the MAF...that could be the problem. The MAF can be cleaned using spray cleaner made specifically for that purpose and nothing else as it is very sensitive.

...sorry to tell you but short rams and aluminum intakes will decrease HP, and only increase sound.

Thanks for the input. Your final statemnt did confuse me though. Why would a short ram or alluminum intake decrease HP? Also how does it affect MOG?
Thanks

Short RAM / Aluminum intake tubes increase heat soak and will decrease mileage. Lot's of dyno posts have proven this. I'd go back to stock intake box / Z-Tube / high flow air filter.

How about if I insulate the tube with a radiant heat wrap and put a cool box around the filter? I saw one a wrap Checker thats supposed to insulate up to 2000 degrees.

You get what you pay for...probably a leak around either the throttle body of MAF enclosure.
