I made a post on this once, but no responses :( trying again.Has anyone tried or had any luck with using the flatlander or RPMRON engine rebuild kits? My engine is gonna be rebuilt before it goes TURBO this summer so I am on the look out for a quality rebuild kit. The RPMRON kit is like 640.00 without pistons (getting forged) and the FLatlander kit is like 539 WITH pistons, both include the timing set and oil pump.

If the flatlander kit as high quality as the RPMron kit I have no problem with saving a 100 bucks. Otherwise I don't mind paying a little extra for more reliability. Anyways... does ANYONE out there no anything about either of these? Do you have any that you've used or can recommend?I am looking for quality more than just lowest price. Though low price would be nice :)

Thanks Guys

I got the flatlander rebuild kit, although i did not get a timing kit with mine. I did get the oil pump and then some custom pistons from JE thru them. I would spend the extra $100 and get the other kit. I was not impressed with some of the gaskets. My intake to head gasket was so thin it tore test fitting it. I wound up going to Nissan and getting OE gaskets for the intake to head and the upper plenum to intake. And now i really wished i had gotten an OE head gasket too. Only because the flatlander one seeped a little after rebuild. Its fine now that the head is tightened down more.

Oh yea, the flatlander rebuild kit is from Topline or Redline, or something like that. It does come complete, however. And the oil pan gasket is cork, which is real nice.

Thanks JNM thats just the kind of post I was hoping for. Sorry the flatlander kit didn't turn out as well for you as you had hoped. I think with the gasket problems you experienced, I'd be a little leary to trust their timing kit.. if the OE timing guides scre wup on a large # of engines, I'd hate to see what a poor man's replacement would do. I think I will e-mail RPMron and see where their kits come from.

Edit: I'm sure all the people out there who rebuilt to go turbo didn't just use these two companies... so throw any ones out there that have given you a good experience.

Well RPMron informed me that the kit they sell is also from Topline. So that means that BOTH kits would have the same downfalls :(

Hey JNM did the rods that came with the rebuild kit come forged and as strong as stock rods?

Anyone out there got any better ideas as far as where to get supplies for the rebuild?
