My best guess is your intake is possibly getting waterlogged. Next time you wash it, take a look when you finish.

+1. Mine went a while ago - if the car detects it isnt working right it goes into "limp home" mode and wont let you rev above about 3K. I wont ruin your day and tell you how much a new one is :D

Does the MAF really make sense here? Don't think it would be effected by a car wash or rain...

Well lets use our brains to think for a second...

What does a MAF do? The MAF sensor provides the open-loop predicted air flow information (the measured air flow) to the ECU, meaning that it measures engine intake airflow, and then relays that information on to the ECU.

Are the sensing units of the MAF delicate? yes

If water, condensation, or excessive moisture gather on the contact points, could it cause the MAF to misread/malfunction? yes

Therefor, could a MAF sensor be directly effected by rain or a car wash? yes

A 3,000 rpm redline type symptom is a tell tale sign of a bad MAF. Your just lucky that it still works.

i know if your tcs is stuck on if the tires are wet or if your in the rain it does the same thing it thinks the car is slipping and it wont let you rev past 3 or 4 grand. its a really ghey system i can floor our 350z of the line and if the tcs is on it will ruin everything car bogs down and shiit really stupid.

The tcs does NOT get stuck when your tires are wet or in the rain. The only time tcs is activated is when the car "feels" that one or more wheels are slipping. It does not get stuck unless you are running grossly oversized wheels or radically staggered setup.

OP check MAF sensor.
