Weather was great this weekend so I drove to Ttown to check out A day( Alabama Football). I noticed while on the Hwy in 5th gear going 70 mph my RPM gauge was reading 3,000 RPM. I am driving a stock KA but I did replace the transmission from a junk yard and had the clutch replaced. Does that reading seem right? What is everybody else RPM at 70mph. Just curious.

seem close i guess. i dont remember in my ka.

and my speedo with the ca does not work.

but in my celica, 80 in 5th is approximately 4000 rpms.

all i know is...in 3rd at exactly 3000 rpms, i am moving at a rate of 39 mph.

Yeah that rpm is fine. I drive on the interstate pretty much everyday to work and my RPM are in that range.

Seems strange I would think that it would be a little lower like 2500 at 70. I did get to check my new clutch out Spec II and it smoked it in first and caught second. I really don`t want to push it to much it has 160k miles on it and I need another year or 2 out of the motor so I can fix everything else wrong with it. Then I am thinking SR.

yea thats normal due to nissan engineers being p******. they had planned for a longer 5th gear but somehow decided the top speed was enough, so put a tall 5th gear in.

Nissan may have wanted some good passing and high speed acceleration... so they made the highway cruising rpm just under the power band so that it's accessible with a simple downshift.

They may have also wanted you to have better city gas mileage so they made 5th gear close enough to be used at 40 mph.

I hate wasting gas. So if I end up cruising on the highway at 3k rpm, I'll just coast in neutral and maybe even turn off the engine. ;)
