rpm signal voltage

Does anyone know what the max rpm signal voltage should be for the rb20. I've had a LM-1 wideband with the rpm converter hooked up for about a year. About 6 months after hooking it up the rpms pegged on the gauge and read 4.99v all the time on the map. I ended up sending it back to Innovate, who was really cool about taking it back. However, they did not provide any feedback as to what caused it to go out. I know that the converter shouldn't see more than 5V but, I didn't think the tach signal would put out more than that. Does it?
