Hi... new to the site here but have seen alot of useful and interesting info. Hopefully someone can help with this one. I have a 08 Versa SL hatchback, CVT, 50k miles. I have been experiencing a drop in rpm's when I stop quicker than normal. Also if I'm idling and close the window(power) the rpm's drop then too. It come back up right away, but for a second almost seems like it's going to stall. It has done this from day one, had it to the dealer multiple times and they say they can't do anthing because now "code" is showing up, and seems to be getting worse and happening more often... any suggestions ? anyone else had same problem?Thanks...

I have an idea about the two different items, but how they would throw a code like the MIL light, I don't know. The CVT is trying to match engine speed with road speed as you slow down. If you slow down quickly, the transmission may be trying to slow the engine down quickly which may seem like it's going to stall. The power to close the window adds a drain on the alternator which makes it work harder and will slow it down a little. As you say it comes back.

How these would cause a "code", I couldn't tell you.

well what your saying when you operate you r power windows the rpm drops, well that is normal but how bad its dropping i dont know not seeing the car. because when you operate any electrical load you are creating a stronger magnetic field in your altenator causing the engine rpm to drop. if your s.e.s light came on there are numerous reasons maybe not related to your question. if the idle dip is excessive the only thing i think to do is get your dealer to perform an I.A.V.L idle air volume learn it calibrates your throttle motor to the ecm basically. if it doesnt fix it ,maybe your in for a new throttle motor. if the dip isnt excessive it is normal. let me know what you find thanks.

I've always experienced a short drop in RPM's when I use my power windows, hit the door locks, turn on the blower motor. The needle drops just a hair or two then returns. The car has never stalled and I have always thought this was normal.

I experience the same idle drop behavior but only when operating the door locks.

Well a slight idle drop is normal when power windows are used, headlights turned on, radiator fans come on, etc. These things draw a lot of amps. I can't really explain why it would get worse. It COULD be your battery isn't in great shape but if you have no problems starting the car then I doubt it. A dying battery has a hard time keeping up with power surges and the car can try to stall before the alternator can adjust to the load. A high-amp battery may help but I don't know exactly what your situation is not being there to actually see what's happening. It may even be the other way around and your alternator is not operating 100% but just enough to keep the battery charged. Could even be the idle air control sensor. Can't say.
