My 05 Altima 2.5 seems to be revving too high on the highway. At 70 it's right at 3000 RPM's, with an Auto and OD engaged.

Is this normal?

Thanks!

No, that is not normal. The only way that would be normal is it you were red lining the gear, but you have an automatic and in your 2005 you shift at just about 60mph (on average). It may be that you have a transmission that is outputting a higher PSI (energy measurement). PSI basically means how hard your transmission is working, how much effort it is putting forth. Or, you could be in a different gear (the shifter is not set to "D"). I would monitor the issue and if it continues or even fluctuates in its occurences, I would consult the dealer.

Let me know how it works out. Good luck.

That does seem a touch high, but 3000 rpm is not too far off. I was thinking like 3000 rpm for 80. But I'll check with my gf today and see what hers runs at 70.

Thanks.

I'm positive that the shifter is in 4, over to the right in the gate. I've counted the shifts, and the lockup engagement. I'm only getting 23 mpg on the highway, and believe this is the problem.

At 70 mph, my gf's engine is running at 2650 rpm. Sounds like yours is not shifting into overdrive for some reason. When is the last time you had the fluid changed?

Anyone else have an 05 that can drive 70?
