I recently changed my setup from SAFC2 to the emanage. The rpm reading on my laptop reads about 2x what the tach does. Sometimes it will show up right for a second. At idle, it shows about 1.5k and occasionally will drop to 750-800 and jump back up. I wasted an afternoon at the dyno shop and f'ed up my car because of this. I finally got the head back on and need to straighten this out before I try to tune this thing again.

Do we need some kind of tach adapter for our cars? I don't think it's a problem with the wiring at the ecu, but I plan to go back and solder the connections just to be sure. The only other thing I changed when I installed the emanage was upgrading to a Z32 maf. I doubt it has anything to do with that. Anybody got any insight on this?

BTW: I have an s13 w/ KA24E

well I know on the SOHC distributor the CAS puts out two different signals. one is an individual signal for every 360 degrees of rotation then there are 90 degree marks. let me dig up some specs and see where the tach signal should go to but you might end up having to wire it a bit differently.

what do you have the tach wire on your e-manage wired to right now? I recall someone saying they needed a tach adapter to wire up and MSD ignition to their SOHC so it might be possible you need to get a tach signal adapter.

Have you inputed that your car is a 4 cylinder in the setup section, if not it will read incorectly.

I had the same problem when I installed my emanage. I used the MSD tach adaptor along with a blaster SS coil and it cleared the problem up. Now my idle is rock solid and the EM reads correctly. It will cost you around seventy bucks but thats not much. I also have a KA24E BTW.

Are you using the pressure sensor or just the regular maps? If you are using the PS and wouldn't mind sharing your maps I would liek to take a look at them. My car should be running within the next month (HOORAH)If you have any other questions I'd be happy to help.

this is odd, it reads slightly lower on my DE. It seems as though the higher I go in RPM's, the more inaccurate it becomes. Its just about the same at Idle, but at redline it will read about 500RPM's off. I figure this is just because im tapping off a line that is tapped off a line to my ECU (voltage drop through lines or something)

Since the SOHC KA is not a supported application, I'd suggest signing up for the E-Manage yahoogroups and also posting there. There are a lot of knowledgable guys who may know how to tweak it. My impression was that some of the rotary switches can alter a particular aspect of the E-Manage's operation and perhaps a simple tweak can switch it to read the signal correctly.

I posted on the yahoo group a while back but no one responded back to help me out. I'm sure that the rotary switch is set for 4 banger, I had thought about changing it to 8 since that would cut it in half, but that still wouldn't explain why it was so erratic. I had an MSD btm installed on my car a while back and it required a tach adapter, but it was the tach in the car that wasn't working without it. How would I wire that in for this? I was looking over the wiring yesterday, I have the tach signal wire tapped into the yellow/red wire going to ecu pin #3 and the two wires for controlling the timing are tapped into the white wire on pin #1. Is there somewhere else to tap in for this signal, like the green/black wire b4 it goes through the resistor?

Here is the setup I used to solve that same problem. I wired everything up as shown in the instructions.

MSD 6a ignition box PN#6200 179.95 @ summit

MSD blaster ss COIL PN#8207 41.88 @ summit

MSD tach adaptor PN#8910 [email protected]

It will cost a couple of bucks but you get a better spark with it and my car idled like a rock after I installed it all.

Good luck
