My truck originally did not show rpm so I bought one from the junk yard and installed it. My truck had the harness for it, everything works except the rpm pointer!! Can anyone help, do I need some sort of sensor to go with it!!?

Check out mrecoolgar's transformation thread, he did the swap and detailed it in there. He's very knowledgeable on the pre-1993 update Hardbody stuff.

By pointer do you mean the needle on the gauge? I know many get brittle and break with heat and age. Not sure I understand the question.

The tach may be bad.
The same happened to me.
I swapped in a known working tach and it worked.
And I put the bad one in the other truck and it didn't work.
