Hey guys I need some help ... probably from people who have autos or just know what the answer could be. My speedo died and i'm wondering if somebody can tell me with an 89 fastback with stock engine and overdrive turned on at cruising speed what rpms 65 mph could be? I got 11 points on my liscense and if i get one more ticket ...I DONT DRIVE! :help

I gotta take a defensive driving course

(all tickets were in my ranger not 240)

anyways... any help would be great!

TIA

Mark

I'm no where near 11 points, but the California DMV wanted my license at one point. The best piece of driving advice that I got was, "Don't be the fastest vehicle." I pass that along to you, because very few people actually drive at the speed limit and doing so might make you appear suspicious (ie, more likely to be pulled over).

Ever since I got over driving as fast as absolutely possible, and contented myself to drive with traffic, I haven't picked up any more points (knock on wood). It's been a little over three years now.

Just remember that cops are trained to look for what is suspicious and out of the ordinary.

well i dont know much about license revoking and such, but if your speedo is broken, is it just not working, or is it bouncing randomly up and down and such, if so, its a magnetical connection, which is a major pain in the *** to get to, i fixed one of my friends 99 eclipse, and that was a biotch and a half, turned out just trying to find out whta the problem was, but then, 7hours later, and a trip to home depot and autozone, we got it fixed

If I remember correctly, it is like 6mph for every 1k rpm.

Its been so long since I have driven my car though.

yea thats the same stuff that was happening ot hte eclipse, we'd hit like 2o, and itd go all the way up to 16o, but when we slwed down, it could become more accurate (while braking), and honestly i dont even know what its called, but i know i had to (actually i dont even know if i HAD to) but i took off his whole dash (dont do it unless you have to!) and traced wires and such all the way back towards the firewall, ugghh, such a pain

Thanks for all the help guys... I really need to save up a bit of cash and get that speedometer fixed =\

I would guess also that 65 is probably around 23 to 2500 rpms while cruising... i'll just do what you guys say and drive along with everybody else... .everybody else drives fast around here though ...:(
