i have a 89 240sx fastback, and i currently got the sr20det in it. But the speedometer works but the rpm gauge does not. Do they have to just connect the rpm gauge, or do i need the japanese tachometer? Currently i have the US mph tachometer. and my friend has the jdm kph tachometer on his and works. Plz leave ur info here. Thank you

HELLO

you need a DOHC cluster to get the tach to work. Different signals

Nope, get a DOHC cluster. Then your TACHOMETER will work.

How much is the cluster and is it easy to self-install?

the clusters are on ebay all the time, and if u have hud right now, try and get a hud cluster, or if u dont then get an analog cluster, itll make install way easier, heavy throttle has a tech on how to install it, should take about 30-45 mins

Are you kidding me???? Did you do any research on tihs swap. or did you just buy a 240 witha swap. PLEASE tell me you didn't do it yourself:rolleyes

Anyway to change the cluster would take about 30min-1 hour depending on your skill. You unscrew the lower part of the dash (what the **** is that **** called, it esacped me right now...too early to be giving advice). IT is like 5 or 6 10mm screws. Next unscrew the gauge cluster trim. It is a like two screws I believe. However, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend dropping the steering wheel. That consisit of 2 12mm (I believe) screws. They are a pain to get to. Drop teh steering wheel down and pull out the cluster trim. Then the cluster itself is like 3 screws. Pull it out, unclip the plugs. Replace the SOHC with a DOHC one and voila....should have instant tach. Then do everything in reserve order
