I don't know a lot about torque converters, so I'm not going to touch the comment "I have noticed the locking of the TC is not active at 60.as I let off the throttle in tip, rpms will sink to 1500". Except to say that I don't think I've ever noticed the RPMs stay steady when letting off the gas in any car at any speed, and that is something I would expect to notice and not like.
That having been said, I know from past experience that manual mode has higher RPMs at cruising speeds below 60 than auto mode. Since I made my previous post this morning, I remembered on the drive to work that I could test this. I confirmed today on the way to work that manual mode and auto mode have the same RPMs at cruising speeds a bit higher. My limited understanding of torque converters is that they lock something in the transmission to prevent slippage otherwise normal in automatics once they are up to speed. If that is a correct assessment, then it seems plausible that the torque converter not being engaged could play a role in the difference in RPMs between auto and manual modes.
