rpm gauge broke

hey about a month ago my rpm gauge broke. what is usually does is just sit at 0 rpm. but sometimes when im driving it will start to work. and one more thing it does it will jump around all over the place. and i have no clue what is wrong with it. If anyone knows please help!Thanks

no it is analog.

You need a tachometer. It's not if they fail it's when will the fail.

It made no sense to me either. I'm pretty sure that you have a cable that operates the tach. It probably broke. Replace it and you'll be good to go.

There aint no cable!!! Nissan hasn't used a cable for the tach since the 70's maybe early 80's. As far as the comment that I posted that noone "got". The tachometers in all 1995 and 1996 240's fail eventually. I've had three of these cars and all had bad tachs. I have replaced probably a hundred of them at the dealership in 240's, Sentras, Altimas, D21's, and Quests. S14's didn't have digital instrument clusters either
