RPM Fluctuation, Engine Stalling Issue *FIXED

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello! I am writing this post in hopes that it will help others with 2008 EX35. My car currently has 45k miles and is out of warranty, but powertrain is up to 50k or 60k I think (not sure which but I know I'm still covered for powertrain).

My car recently had issues of irregular idle and even stalling when the car is fully warmed up and driving around at low speeds (mostly in parking lots or stop and go, etc.). I've had the issue of the RPM bouncing around when coming off the freeway and stopping at the light before making a right turn for some time now, but thought that it was normal. Anyhow, the issue became worse so I took it for service at the dealer. BTW, my regular warranty was up, but powertrain warranty for everyone lasts until 50k or 60k, I believe. This is obviously a powertrain issue, but the service adviser told me that if it wasn't, I'd be liable for $145 diagnostic charge. The service dept. was able to replicate the issue, turns out it was the throttle actuators assembly. They replaced both throttle assemblys. So far, I've driven about 20 miles and haven't had irregular idle or stalling issue yet. I hope this helps.

Not being too inclined on the workings of a motor...
I would guess from my female point of view and being that I kinda know whats going on under the hood - that somehow either:

1) The twin electronic drive-by-wire throttles got out of sync somehow.
2) One of the throttles was failing and due to mileage Infiniti changed both to be on the safe side.
3) There might be a potential problem out there waiting to get us all at some point.
4) There was a vacuum leak and the "stealer" just wanted to get more money out of the factory for the fix.

Thanks for sharing this information.
I suppose we will all be on the lookout for this problem.

Hi IKP730,

I have the exact same problem on our 2008 ex35 which has 57,000 miles on it now. Just wanted to confirm that your issue was fully covered under the powertrain warranty?

Thanks
