Do you think this setup would be a good starting point for drifting? (KA24DE)

dude, honestly, I'd recommend something along the lines of 17x9 +15 or something around those sizes. Take advantage of the nice sizes rpf1 has... if you get the 16x8's I can almost guarantee you'll regret it down the line and want AT LEAST 17's. IMO, 16's dont belong on s14s lol

Will I be able to break traction on 17's with the KA24de? That was the only reason I was going to get the 16's.

I'm selling some 16x8 RPF1 +15 with some good rubber. Not for drifting though.

hint hint wink wink.

16's:
+Cheaper Tires
+Easier to Break traction
-Less sizes

I just hear on about every forum on how hard it is to break traction with 17+ wheels on stock motor. (Although the pic above destroys that theory, although he probably has a ton of other suspension stuff put into it to make up for the power)

If I do decide to buy the 16x8 will +38 offset clear my coils? (I realize if I buy 16's, I will want 17x9-10 for whenever I do a sr20 swap, but at the same time if I buy 17x9-10 wheels now it's going to be hard for me to break traction unless I pump up the PSI to 50+)

I'm pretty sure I read on BH's thread that he pumps them up to about 75 or 80 psi

Do you know his wheel/tire specs?

Why would it be harder to break traction on 17s vs 16s? The weight difference is like 2lbs on each wheel...
Tire size makes much more difference then wheel diameter. I have 17x9.5 RPF1's with a 255 Azenis on the rear and I still can still break traction fine with a stock kade.

What psi do you have to run in the rear though?

28psi, lol
But i have ran 45psi when I go drift and its been fine.

Really though, wheel diameter makes little to no difference in traction as long as you have proper sidewall. Go with the 17's or rock the 16's and have almost everyone in the 240 community laugh at your ugly honda sized wheels. Your choice.

No no it's not that I want 16's it's just I heard they are easier to break traction, but now that you said that I'm going to stick with 17's.

Should I just keep my g35 17x7.5" front and 8" rear? If so what tire size's should I be looking at? 205/45/17 Front and 225/45/17 Rear? or would 40 or 50 sidewall be better? Are those decent widths for drifting on that size or should I change them up also?

You missed what I was trying to say.
15 and 16 inch wheels look good on honda's, not on 240s...especially not S14's.
So let me break it down for you: UGLY on 240s HONDA SIZED WHEELS

Maybe I should of put a comma in there. :gapteeth:

I agree but not because of this statement. ^ Its really gonna come dwn to your offsets.
If your worried about traction on 17 in wheels then spend you $$$ on hp and not wheels. Makes sense right?

When I bought the car it didn't come with the SE wheels, only the G35 coupe wheels. And good point on trying to make more power instead of buying smaller wheels. I think what I'm going to do is keep my G35 wheels until I do a swap. Now I just have to decide which tires sizes to run.

Edit:
Do you think this setup would be a good starting point for drifting and would the tires fit on the wheels ok? (KA24DE)

Wheels: F 17x7.5+30 R 17x8+33
Tires: F 205x45/17 R 215/45/17

Let me know what you think, thanks.

Yasko post pics so we see what we're working with here. I say keep stock rims if you want 16's...
They will look small. 17's are the way to go or 18's with a drop.

Any reason? not arguing, just want as much info as I can gather.
So those tire widths would be good? or should I go with a 225 in the rear? but then I would have to raise the psi, so idk...

i agree they look bad on s14/15's... not s13's... but like ^^ said, its all about offset and tire size.. not simply diameter.. :tisk:

Edit:
Topic changed from "which offset for 16x8 wheel" to "which size tire for 17" g35 coupe wheels for drifting w/ KA24de." Didn't feel the need to make a new thread.
Go with 215/45/17 on the front and 245/40/17 on the back, they looked good on a s13 with staggered G35 rims

pfft easily. I can break traction with 17x9 +20 with kumho xs 245/40/17 with KA24DE. but never got into drifting; however, I whipped the tail many times. 16x8 are small especially on s14's.

id do 215/45 all around on the g35 wheels. no point running so small up front with that sized wheel.

If I run 215 all around will I be able to rotate my tires from font to back? or will I just be able to rotate side to side because of the different wheel widths?

If the rear wheels are wider with a different offset, they should stay on the rear. Even if the tire size is the same, the width of the wheel is not.
