I was just wondering if anyone has used royal purple in the Q yet & could you notice any difference?

Why anyone would buy that funky purple colored semi-synthetic is beyond me-I would rather use Mobil 1 than that crap-if you really want or need a better oil than M1,look to Redline,Neo,or Motul...at least they are all true group 4 or 5 full synthetics

We should all just put in Fomblin or Kyrtox and forget about it. I mean at 200 bucks a pint its a bargain.

I have used RP 75W-140. Worked fine. So has Amsoil and M1 in those weights.

For oil I use M1. RP is too expensive to change so often.

If you really want your head to hurt, check out this forum - entirely dedicated to motor oil. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/...s.php

I actually considered RP when it became readily available at my local Wal-Mart, but decied against it quickly after checking on that forum. Not particularly well regarded. Sticking to M1.

Yeah but isn't that common after an oil change? I noticed the same thing in my Jeep when I changed the oil and I used el-cheapo Advance oil on it.

I always thought the level of improvment was directly proportional to how much my back, hands, etc. hurt after I was done. And maybe proportional to how long it took me to wash up afterwards.

Maybe your OCI is extended too far?

the only reason the engine runs better, smoother, faster, etc after a oil change is either mind games or the old oil was soo overdue for changing that it thickened due to oxidation.....I do not believe you can tell the difference,by feel, from fresh cheap oil compared to the most expensive exotic synthetic. Granted the superior oil is produced from a much better basestock{PAO or POE} and additive package that will allow for a more robust product and resist breakdown better than the cheap stuff, while providing superior lubrication, easpecially at both temp. extremes and has a host of other worthwhile benefits including less evaporation which ultimately keeps your pcv and plenum system much cleaner, among others.

I can tell a difference after an oil change after 3500 miles. I especially notice on smaller four-cylinder engines.

RP isn't bad, its just not a worthwhile expenditure.

I tend to judge things like this by there marketing...in an inverse way. Royal Purple has been plastering themselves all over everything with pixels. I give a slight discount to the fact that this seems to be an initial product push, but most great products advertise in subtle ways if they advertise at all. Not scientific (or engineer-like) I know, but I don't have the time to learn the science behind motor oil, so I follow my gut and good advice like that given here.

The last oil change, I forgot to load up the trunk and had only 3 quarts of Mobil 0w40, it got mixed with 3 quarts of Valvoline 10w30..~~ 5w35 on average.

In BG MOA we trust to pacify the bearings and rings.

BTW what does Nissan/Infinity recommend and changing the oil at what intervals/mileage ?

Honda/Acura specifies the API specs in the owners handbook and the intervalis 7500 miles.

I follow those recommendations pretty much and don't ya know NAPA just happen to meet the specs with their house brand oil. Frequently on sale too and bottled by Ashland Oil, manufacturer of Havoline hmmmm.

Ahem, er, not being an engineer WATS a guy to do ? ? ? Welllll I just go with Honda recommendations. I do change the filter when changing the NAPA oil though, with a NAPA gold no less

What's BG MOA? I guess I should know, but can't think of it.

I start thinking about changing my oil at 3k, but it's probably closer to 4k or 5k before I do. That's one reason I run full synthetic - just in case. I'm going to try and do better from now on.

4-5 thousand miles is conservative with a full synthetic oil,any less is not buying you anything!I change every 90 days,regardless of miles using full synthetic-sometimes it is 4000 miles,sometimes it is almost 7000 miles if I have taken a long trip,but usually it is right around 5000 miles by day 90.Mobil 1 used for the first 100,000,Redline from 100,000-til now{204,000}

The G50 manual says 3750 miles on conventional 10w30.
