1993 240sx coupeAll factory stock except cone filter and muffler

I've had off and on problems with the engine ever since I got it 2 years ago. It's been behaving lately, as far as it's poor idle, I think I finally fixed the problem (I believe it was the AIV valve, I've cleaned it, but it only runs right with the plug disconnected)

However, whenever I get on it, like say from a stoplight or whatever, and take it through it's revs, it's really rough and sputtery. I know that I can smell clutch after the run, so would a dieing clutch cause a sputter like that? I figure a dieing clutch would just slip, not sputter.

thanks much

I doubt its your clutch causeing sputtering. Could be bad plugs or wires, possibly the distributor cap. I would start going for ignition components first [and just cause a dist cap is new dont neccesarily mean its good, made in italy caps are crap recommend you replace it if you find it is.]
