Rough spots in paint, HELP!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I waxed my car for the first time this weekend and while doing so I noticed several rough spots in the paint. All of the spots were on the top surfaces of the car. After you are done waxing a car the paint usually feels smooth like glass but these ares felt like fine sand paper. These areas were rough enough that when I rubbed them my friend could here the scratching sound four feet away. I have not noticed these areas the three other times I washed my car, looking at the area you can not see any difference in the paint from the rest of the car. I called my dealer to ask if Infiniti puts a spray of some sort over the top of the car like Honda does to protect the car from acid rain when it is shipped from the factory and the service department told me that they do and their may be some left on the car. I called back to talk to my sales man and he said that they use plastic on the top surfaces and not use a spray, so I do not know who is correct? If Infiniti does not use a spray during transport to the dealership what could be on my paint and how do I get it off? I used Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid Wax and when I found the problem ares I used their 3 step paint cleaner, polish, and wax, and that still did no difference. After reading post I am going to use Zaino next but need help to get ride of these rough areas. Thank you in advance.

Do you mean like touching some grain of sand on top of the finish?

If that`s how it feels, all you need is clay bar the car.

Zaino clay bar is the best! I also like their kit. Don`t look for other waxes,

Zaino is the best!

ZAINO has so many products, and it really gets confusing what to chose.

Here`s all you need:

You need to remove the old wax.

I think Zaino recommend a specific dish cleaner to remove the old wax.

Wash the car as normal. Then use a Z-18 ClayBar or Maguire

http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/detail/MEG+G1016 KIT - which is cheaper.

After clay bar. You can wash the car again or go straight and apply this

Z-2 PRO Show Car Polish. I recommend using a ZFX Flash Cure Accelerator

Additive to be mixed with the z2 pro so that you don`t need to wait 2 or 3

hours before wiping. Using the accelerator, you can wipe or buff the car in

30 minutes (temp. 50 degrees or up). After 30 minutes, you`ll notice a

hase on the paint surface. You need to use Z-6 Ultra Clean Gloss

Enhancer Spray to remove excess polish or while wiping or buffing.

What I do is I alternate between Z2 PRO and Z-6 application until I have 3

coatings of Z2 pro.

You need at least 3 coating of Z2 pro to protect your car`s finish for 6

months (outdoor) 1 year (indoor kept). To maintain it, you can just use

Z6 to clean it.

This is how it should look like.

I don`t see any point in using clay bar on the 3M film. You can use Z2 pro and Z6 without problem.... Clay bar will work on the 3M I think, make sure you don`t use wax on it that has strong solvent. It migth affect the color though...

just a few notes..

First clay bar "zaino" is a must have product. Other claybars can be purchased, but zaino is tried and proven.

With claybars you must keep the surface lubricated. I have used clay on the 3m film in the past, as I had some bug crap and a bit of tar (this is on another vehicle) you just need to be careful.

Waxing the 3M film needs to be done. I used zaino, or meguiars nxt. Wax helps protect the film from UV rays, and to help the yellowing of the film.

This spring I will be testing Diamon Kote's clay bar. I am very interested in detailing. The other site I frequent has it's own detail forum, and it is amazing the guys who go all out and spends $1000 of dollars on different products.

Dawn dish soap is the product recommended by zaino to strip the wax. Don't use Dawn each time the car is washed. The more layers of zaino the better.

I have 15 coats of zaino on my honda, and it looks brand new. I get all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.

Before you clay bar your EX first try letting it sit in the sun until the effected area achieves a ~150ish*F (I forget the exact number but I will get it and amend this). The EX has a self healing clear coat and many slight imperfections can "heal" themselves.

I'm a huge detailing fan, it's one of my vices. I drive around with a trunk full of products and a section of my cabinet dedicated temperature sensitive products.

There is actually a new TSB about servicing the paint. It specifically references what to do with new car stock, but if you all are interested I will see if I can put it up here.

Clay baring my Acura is what gets me through the long winters. My J needs it too but the Acura is silver and nothing looks better than a lighter pigment and the right detailing regiment. Zaino is a great product if you have the time to dedicate to correct application, there are many premium products that work well and can be purchased when in RL and you actually happen upon the free time and good weather.

Thank you for the reply that youtube video sounds exactly like the problem that I have. I have never used a clay bar before but I will order the starter kit from Zaino and give it a try. Thanks again.
