Hi all,

I started having a rough idle happening with my 98 maxima. I first noticed it when I was done driving at highway speeds for about 5 hours.

It is happening because of a low engine speed at idle.

It is now happening when the engine reach operating temps and I am @ red lights waiting in gear. The RPM is at about 500RPMs. When I put it in Neutral, it is at about 700-800 rpms.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Heeter

clean the TB, IACV, and EGR guide tube. If that doesnt fix it you may have a bad coil pack

I've noticed a lot of older cars do that, especially some of the older hondas. Your just at a light in D and the cars just shaking. Your car is 13 years old. Have a lot of miles? You keep it tuned up? Any check engine light.

It's worth pointing out that many older cars (even some Hondas built within the last 10 years) use mechanical distributors, which are often the cause of rough idle in these conditions. The 4th gen Maxima, however, has electronic ignition, with individual coilpacks, rather than a mechanical distributor.
