Hi everyone! I have lurked her often and now have come upon a problem, reason enough to reach out for some help.

I have a 1993 Maxima I just had a engine put in. Brought the car home and have noticed a terrible idling problem.

Car runs fine at idle until you turn the headlights on or the electric fan comes on or the a/c. I dont believe it to be an alternator problem because I have tested the alternator. The car will go from an idle speed of about 800 to stalling as soon as the electric fan comes on.

the other thing I noticed was that it seems to have a power loss up to about 45 and then all of a sudden kicks in almost like the car is not mixing fuel/air properly and takes a will to catch up.

Any help would be GREAT!

First thing I would do is clean the electric contact points really well. Battery terminals, grounding points, maybe even check for corrosion around the alternator.

The alternator may be putting out enough juice, but it may just not be able to get it everywhere due to poor connections. Give that a try and see how it goes from there.

(edit: moved from VG section, its a bit more Maxima specific)

There is an idle up circuit that idles the engine up with an electrical load on, such as headlights, AC, etc. Get a shop manual and check out that circuit.
